London Is Now Officially Sherlocked

Sherlock Holmes. Everyone knows the name and its meaning, that of a genius detective with his sidekick, John Watson. In July 2010, the BBC launched a T.V. series called Sherlock telling his numerous adventures as a detective. It has become so popular through the fans’ love for the show, that the producers announced the very first official Sherlock Convention, which will take place in London on Friday 24th to Sunday 26th April 2015, the ExCel.
What is a Convention? It is a meeting of people with the same interest, mostly towards a T.V. series, a culture, or a book. It’s a place where people share their thoughts and enthusiasm about something they like, and more often than not, there are special activities to pass the time and entertain everyone. The activities may be from interviews of the actual actors to a game of bingo based on the characters. Sometimes, it can even be a simple discussion between many fans. Moreover, this is a good opportunity for the fans to dress up as their favorite character for a day.
Who are the guests? So far, 5 guests have been confirmed, but there are supposedly more to come as announced on the official Website. Here they are:
– Benedict Cumberbatch (Sherlock Holmes – Lead guest)- Steven Moffat (Creator)- Mark Gatiss (Mycroft Holmes/Creator – Lead guest)- Sue Vertue (Producer)- Arwel Jones (Production designer – Crew)
What exactly are the featured activities? For every convention, there are things to do and topics to explore. Faithful to the convention tradition, there will be several different activities for everyone’s taste, from Q&As to set displays. Here they are:
– Exclusive Q&As – Watson: A Life Before Sherlock (A display of Watson’s childhood to Army)- Autographs- Professional photo shoots- Exclusive screenings- Meet the Makers (key talent from behind the scenes will be invited to discuss their roles and answer fans’ questions)- Genuine props on display- Set displays
Since there’s rarely something free…There are different packages of entry fee. Unfortunately, not all of them include goods such as posters and the opportunity to get an autograph from one of the cast or the production team, but the more costly do. However, as a bonus, the Gold, Platinum and VIP Passes include a party. There are four categories of passes and four choices for the Standard Pass. Here are the choices you have for each category:
– Standard (Standard 1 Day Pass, Standard 1 Day Child Pass, Standard Weekend Pass, Standard Weekend Child Pass)- Silver Pass- Gold Pass- VIP Pass
The recent fuss about the BBC’s Sherlock is understandable from the casting choice to the production team as it does marvels with the cases. Therefore, this Official Convention is some grand news for Sherlock fans, those commonly known to be ‘Sherlocked’. It means that their love for the show and its characters doesn’t go unnoticed as the heads decided it was time to make it official, though there have been many meetings established by fans throughout the years. There are still guests to be announced, but we can already see it’s going to be quite the event… But after all, it’s elementary, my dear reader.
